Windows Server IPSEC / L2TP VPN Connection fails from Windows Vista / 7 / 10 Client if Windows Server is behind NAT

Apparently Microsoft was smart enough that you have to set a registry in order for the windows VPN client to connect to an IPSEC / L2TP Windows VPN Server if it's behind a Router / Firewall. To fix it do the following on the client trying to connect to the VPN: open regedit and go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\PolicyAgent Create a new 32-Bit D-Word "AssumeUDPEncapsulationContextOnSendRule" and set it to the value 2, and afterwards reboot. And send some hate mail to the idiots at microsoft ... Source Microsoft KB 926179 Alternatively download the file from here: download and run it. |
